Attorney Cairns Participates in Roundtable on Judicial Selection Principles

CONCORD, NH — R. Matthew Cairns, litigation attorney with Gallagher, Callahan and Gartrell and and immediate past president of DRI — The Voice of the Defense Bar, will participate in a roundtable of leaders in a wide range of fields to help develop principles for choosing, evaluating, and retaining state court judges. Attorney Cairns will discuss ways to preserve impartiality and accountability and, in turn, public trust and confidence in the courts. The roundtable is being sponsored by the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System (IAALS) Quality Judges Initiative.

Attorney Cairns represents the interests of individuals, insurers, manufacturers, transportation and other companies in diverse commercial, complex and traditional litigation matters in all state and federal courts and state agencies. Cairns serves as general counsel to several closely held businesses in New Hampshire and is also experienced in general corporate and municipal representation, and risk management training. Matt is selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® in the field of Personal Injury Litigation, and named to the 2011 list of New England Super Lawyers® for Personal Injury Defense - Products.

Since 1996, Cairns has been an active member, award recipient, and leader of DRI. Matt recently completed a one-year term as DRI’s 2011 president. Before that, Matt served a one-year term as DRI’s President-Elect, and previously was DRI’s First Vice President. Prior to that, he was the Northeast Regional Director overseeing DRI initiatives in New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Cairns was also the DRI State Representative for New Hampshire and received the organization’s State Leadership Award. From 2006-2008, Matt served as the First Circuit editor for DRI's Daubert On-Line newsletter.
