Transmission of electric power is the ability to move large volumes of energy from where it is generated to where it is used. Currently the actual cost of moving power is only 6 to 10 percent of total electric costs. But how well the transmission systems works, and how well it can support an active market, profoundly affects the total cost of electricity.
